Grwp Cynefin announces four new additions to its board

Grŵp Cynefin, has appointed Geraint George, Jane Lewis, Mike Corfield and Tony Jones to its 10-strong management board which is responsible for all aspects of the association’s activities and directs the affairs of the association in accordance with its objectives and rules.

Grŵp Cynefin, is the leading housing association for north and mid Wales, managing approximately 4,800 homes.

Mike Corfield joins Grŵp Cynefin with more than 30 years’ experience in the social housing sector and said he found the organisation’s broad approach to be “exactly what the sector needs to be doing.”

“As someone with a governance background, Grŵp Cynefin is an outstanding organisation in my view.

“They’re involved in a wide range of support and community development extending beyond the core business which I found very attractive and is what I think housing organisations should do.

“I’m really looking forward to working with Grŵp Cynefin.”

Wrexham-born Tony Jones said the opportunity to give something back to a company in Wales proved to be a determining factor in his decision to join the board.

He said: “I’ve been involved in social housing for 15 years in various roles and it’s been on the agenda for some time to join a board.

“I feel it’s time for me to give back some of the knowledge I’ve gathered over the years into a Welsh organisation. I hope to be able to offer some insight into strategic operations, an area I enjoy. Grŵp Cynefin’s diverse range of tenures is interesting and I can offer experience in different areas.”

After more than 20 years in finance, Jane Lewis said she felt her skills in the private sector are transfereable to Grŵp Cynefin.

She said: “After taking a bit of time out from my last role, I was able to do other things with my time.

“I really liked the sound of Grŵp Cynefin, the way it involves the whole community with their approach and I felt I have skills to offer to help improve that as well as getting something from it myself as well.”

Geraint George spent more than 25 years at Gwynedd Council after working in the housing and voluntary sectors. He said he was “keen to share my experience and skills” with the community in his new position.

“I joined the board of Canllaw and was really enjoying it, found it really rewarding, and Grŵp Cynefin has an excellent reputation for its work in community wellbeing,” he said.

“I was keen to give something back and from my perspective, Grŵp Cynefin does lots of very important work in communities across North Wales, for the people in every area.”

Shan Lloyd Williams, Grŵp Cynefin chief executive officer, said: “I’m pleased to welcome our new board members, their wealth of collective experience and diverse backgrounds will strengthen our board’s already wide range of skills and abilities.”

Dafydd Lewis, chairman of Grŵp Cynefin, added: “I’m delighted that Geraint, Mike, Tony and Jane have joined the board. These new appointments further strengthen Grŵp Cynefin’s leadership experience and will help take the company forward.
