Pupils set for more adventurous play thanks to donation

Children at a Denbighshire primary school are set to enjoy new playground equipment following a donation by a leading civil engineering firm.

Pupils at Ysgol Carreg Emlyn’s new building, which is set to open in June, will have access to a climbing frame and play tower thanks to Jones Bros Civil Engineering UK.

The structures, installed by playground specialists Creative Play, will help pupils to be active during break times, breakfast clubs, and after-school sessions at the new school.

And the Ruthin-based firm’s donation is helping the school prepare for a new era, says headteacher Einir Jones.

She said: “Having a contribution towards this equipment by Jones Bros is fantastic news, as it would otherwise have taken a long time to raise the funds to purchase it.

“It’s an exciting time for the school as we prepare to move to the new building, which will house all of our pupils under one roof for the first time in our history.”

The playground continues Jones Bros’ commitment to enhancing the communities its staff resides within and those it works within, says contracts director Eryl Roberts.

He said: “We hope the school’s pupils enjoy using the playground equipment for many years to come.

“As a company we aim to work closely with communities, conducting visits to local sites for Ysgol Bro Elwern, Ysgol Betws Gwerful Goch, and the Denbigh Rotary Club.

“In addition, we are keen to raise pupils’ awareness of skilled and varied careers open to them with the local company. This led to year 5 and 6 pupils from Ysgol Carreg Emlyn visiting the Clocaenog Forest Wind Farm project to produce a film about careers in engineering, interviewing the company’s employees about their work on the site.”

Ysgol Carreg Emlyn’s new school will be located in Clocaenog on a new single site to replace the current sites in Cyffylliog and Clocaenog.

The school is being funded through the Welsh Government’s 21st Century Schools programme, in partnership with investment from Denbighshire County Council, which forms part of a £90 million investment in Denbighshire schools.

Established in the 1950s, Jones Bros is now being run by the second and third generations of the founding family and employs more than 350 people.

In addition to renewable energy, it is currently working on contracts in various sectors including the construction of waste management facilities, highways, flood and marine defence, and highways projects around the UK.
