North Wales based Jones Bros invites young people to its first ever careers day


Jones Bros is urging young people to consider a career in civil engineering ahead of its first ever careers day.



 North Wales based Jones Bros invites young people to its first ever careers day

The Ruthin-based company will give an insight into the civil engineering and construction industry and careers opportunities with the company at the evening event on Thursday, April 21.

The event, from 4pm until 7pm at Jones Bros’ head office in Ruthin, will also provide information on the contractor’s award-winning apprenticeship programme and opportunities for school leavers and graduates.

Visitors will get the chance to quiz some of Jones Bros’ regional and project managers and head office team about the different career paths available in civil engineering and construction.

Ahead of the event, Jones Bros has also opened a new Facebook page to provide updates on jobs and careers prospects with the company.

Director Ruth James said: “Investment in our staff’s training and development has been, and continues to be, key to the company’s success.

“We want to reach out to more young people and inform them about the various opportunities available.

“As a North Wales company operating on high profile projects across the UK, there are a number of ways school leavers and graduates can start a successful career in civil engineering.

“We want to give them an insight into what it’s like working in this exciting industry and on our construction projects working for international clients.

“There are a huge range of roles in civil engineering construction, from skilled groundworks and plant operative places to engineers and quantity surveyors, which can lead on to project management.

“But we also want to help young people think beyond the traditional jobs you associate with construction. There’s a variety of career paths that support the industry, such as in finance, environmental management and health and safety, all of which offer opportunities for progression.”

An award-winning provider of training and apprenticeships, Jones Bros currently has 27 apprentices on its two training programmes.

Jones Bros’ training department was shortlisted in the Outstanding Training Partner category in the Construction Industry Training Board’s (CITB) 2015 Pride of Construction awards, having won the prize the previous year.

The contractor was also nominated in the Training Excellence category at the Construction News Specialists Awards, and apprentice James Symon, who joined Jones Bros last January, was a finalist in the Apprentice of the Year prize.

Founded in the 1950s and employing 350 people, Jones Bros has grown significantly in the last decade. It is currently working on contracts including the construction of waste management facilities, highways, flood and marine defence and renewable energy projects around the UK.
